Automotive Art

As some of you may know, I am a full time photographer and videographer. So lighting is my life. Lately I’ve been creating renders of some of my favorite cars in the racing sim Assetto Corsa using Content Manager‘s Custom Showroom. If you haven’t used it, it’s a very cool mini-program for looking at cars. You can set up four different kinds of lights including point, spot, directional and plane lights. These are equivalent to a china lantern, a fresnel, sunlight and a panel light or soft box. There are also scenery lights that come with various “showrooms” that you can download which light up or remove the brightness of the background. You can also play around with reflections and shadows and all sorts of other characteristics of the final image.

If you are a fan of photography, especially studio photography, I highly recommend you try out this awesome program.

I’ve created a gallery of images on Flickr here:

Here’s a preview of some of my favorites (including some images I haven’t posed yet):

Let me know what you think. Are you a fan of photography? What do you like to take photos of? What about sim racing? Any sim racers out there?

  1. Beautiful renders Feint. I’ve not played Assetto Corsa although i’ve seen vidoes on Youtube. I play Project Cars 1 & 2 with the Oculus Rift on PC with pedals, shifter and steering wheel obviously. Hope to add a racing seat soon to my frame. On One X i play Forza, Forza Horizon and Gran Turismo Sport on PS4. 😉

    1. I was the same way. I actually never really liked Assetto Corsa because of the bad graphics until about the last year or two. The game has been SEVERELY updated by the community and now looks just as good or better than any of the newest games out right now. And there are literally hundreds of very high quality cars now in the game, and probably over a thousand total. The force feedback is much better than Project Cars. What did it for me was driving a car over the curbs in Monza and the feeling through the wheel was like a Eureka moment for me. I now play in VR using a program called Content Manager to manage the cars and settings in the game and it’s the best racing experience I have now. I think it’s on par with ACC but with more cars available. ACC has better FFB, but it’s close.
