I’ve created a depth gauge watch for Arma 3. This is something I’ve wanted to do for literally YEARS. My motivation this time was:
- I thought I could do it based on display and control rotation skills I developed when working on the Sailing Mod.
- I was going to have minor surgery, and I was NOT going to die before releasing a freaking dive gauge for Arma 3. lol
I basically put the code together in about 15 hours of straight work. The graphics took me a few days to create after waffling back and forth about what model of depth gauge to create.
The nice thing about this addon is that not only does it indicate your depth below sea level, it also reacts to the light level and depth visually. In other words, when it’s dark out, it glows in the dark. And when you go deeper in the water, the colors on the strap and face turn more of a dark blue/green color, depending on how deep you are. Some of this coding required some new thinking on my part and some extra special code from Matthijs. Check out some of his other climatological functions here.
It also changes the way it looks when you turn on NV or Thermal goggles. All of these different looks are a combo of different textures and colors being applied to the textures. It’s kind of a cool system BI has created for fading between textures. There’s a lot of potential there.
Let me know what you think. The gauge is in Meters of Sea Water (MSW) but I was thinking of making a Feet of Sea Water (FSW) version. I was also thinking of making different dive gauges, as there are some really cool ones out there used by civilian and military.
