The Islands of Arma 3: Altis in MSFS

What is this? Three videos in three days? I’m inspired. Part two in my series on the Islands of Arma 3, as seen in Microsoft Flight Simulator. I flew around Altis for years in Arma 3 and loved it. Now with MSFS, this is taken to the next level. And I can fly from Altis to Stratis, something you can’t do in Arma3. Watch until the end to see how I am ironically Arma’d in MSFS.

Sailing Mod Updated to 1.5

A massive update to my Sailing Mod to version 1.5.  I’ve completely redone how the boat moves using PhysX instead of setVelocity commands.  This will make operating the boat much more smooth.  I’ve also changed the way the display works so that it now correctly indicates the True Wind Angle.  I changed the numbers displayed to include boat speed (BSPD), True Wind Angle (TWA), True Wind Direction (TWD) and True Wind Speed (TWS).

I also was able to calculate Apparent Wind Angle, which is now indicated on the display as a yellow arrow which moves around the compass indicating relative wind direction as it’s felt on the boat.

If someone wants me to display Apparent Wind Speed (AWS) instead of boat speed, let me know as that is a value on most sailboat displays.  I just like the boat speed display because it’s in tenths of a kph.

Also, if people want me to change the indications of speed to knots instead of kph, let me know.  KPH is kind of the default speed for everything in Arma, so I figured I would leave it at that.  But if people want knots, let me know.  I might be able to add an option to switch between both.

A few of the other changes include:

  • New anti-collision lights
  • New headlight
  • New red flag instead of windsock
  • New leaning behavior that takes into account TWA
  • New heading indicator on the compass display

I still have to update some of the pictures on Steam and on the in-game instruction manual.  But I wanted to release it before I went down that road.

Depth Gauge Watch Released!

I’ve created a depth gauge watch for Arma 3.  This is something I’ve wanted to do for literally YEARS.  My motivation this time was:

  1. I thought I could do it based on display and control rotation skills I developed when working on the Sailing Mod.
  2. I was going to have minor surgery, and I was NOT going to die before releasing a freaking dive gauge for Arma 3.  lol

I basically put the code together in about 15 hours of straight work.  The graphics took me a few days to create after waffling back and forth about what model of depth gauge to create. Continue reading Depth Gauge Watch Released!
